As I wrote in my article "Critical Thinkers in a Post-Truth World" I believe that a really urgent purpose of education is to teach students how to think critically, independently & skeptically.
I saw an article (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-46146877) on the BBC News site today that highlights the urgency of such a task.
"According to a separate BBC analysis, at least 32 people have been killed in the past year in incidents involving rumours spread on social media or messaging apps."
